The race: Georgia governor
Party affiliation: Democrat
The lane:
Olu Brown is a community-centric “servant leader” focused on practical solutions, economic fairness, and grassroots engagement.
The basics:
Brown started the Impact Church in East Point in 2007 and retired from all leadership roles in 2022. Since then, Brown created Culverhouse, LLC to incubate and support businesses and community-driven organizations.
Why he’s running:
Brown believes in increasing teacher compensation, improving economic outcomes in overlooked urban and rural communities. He also supports women’s access to healthcare as well as expanding Medicaid.
What’s working:
Brown’s collaborative approach to campaigning while being a political outsider has drawn in voters focused on credibility with faith communities, grassroots organizers, and voters looking for a candidate focused on local impact.
The challenge:
Even though Brown is respected in metro Atlanta civic and ministry circles, he lacks the political profile of candidates like Keisha Lance Bottoms, Michael Thurmond, and Jason Esteves. Also, he does not have the funding to break through in the Atlanta media market.
What to watch:
Watch turnout patterns in south metro Atlanta, DeKalb County, and church-centered communities where personal relationships matter most. Also, can Brown capitalize on his listening tours and secure enough undecided and anti-establishment Democratic voters late in the voting period.
