The office:
U.S. Senate

Party:
Republican

The lane:
Mike Collins has made a name for himself with his bombastic use of social media that is consistently known to ruffle some feathers. He is the favorite, according to recent polling, and stands solidly behind President Donald Trump.

The basics:
Collins, a Jackson native, has represented a middle Georgia district in the U.S. House since 2023. He has owned a trucking company since the early 1990s.

Why he’s running:
Many Republicans wanted Gov. Brian Kemp to run for Senate, and when he didn’t, the lane cleared for Collins and others to throw their hats into the ring.

What’s working:
Even though he’s only been in federal office for a little more than three years, Collins’ several viral moments across that time have made him well known in Republican circles.

The challenge:
Though not a large percentage, there are some Republican voters who have been turned off by his Trump-like messaging who may choose to support another candidate.

What to watch:
Collins was leading among Republican candidates running for Senate, according to a recent poll from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, but more than half of voters polled said they were undecided.
